Tri Marine Group congratulates the Indonesian Pole-and-Line and Handline Fisheries Association (AP2HI) and the International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF) on achieving Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for eight small-scale tuna fisheries operating in Indonesia’s archipelagic waters. We also commend the significant efforts of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) in strengthening Indonesian’s fisheries management and governance systems. These newly certified, “one-by-one” fisheries are well regulated by MMAF and the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) and provide important socio-economic benefits to fishers, their families and communities in the region. Tri Marine, together with our Indonesian tuna suppliers, are proud to source certified sustainable skipjack and yellowfin from some of the 380 pole-and-line and handline vessels covered under this MSC certification. These fishers collectively catch almost 11,000 metric tons per year. As key players in Indonesia’s tuna supply chain and members of AP2HI and IPNLF, Tri Marine and its Indonesian partners have actively supported various fisheries improvement projects which have underpinned this MSC certification, including improved vessel-level data collection and monitoring.
