About the STP
One-by-one fishing is the only tuna fishing method for the consumer industry that is considered to be environmentally safe, truly sustainable, and based on generations of tradition.
With the Sourcing Transparency Platform (STP) we want to make the journey of these one-by-one caught tuna products more accessible by showing you what constitutes a sustainable and responsible tuna product, helping you understand where it came from.
The Sourcing Transparency Platform (STP) has been developed by the International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF) to provide a platform that showcases IPNLF's supporting members who are represented throughout the one-by-one supply chain. These companies are using sustainable practice when fishing, sourcing, and selling tuna products.
The STP is a key new initiative of IPNLF and a crucial component of our 2020-2025 Strategic Plan and our 2025 Commitment under which our members commit to drive transparency, social responsibility and environmental sustainability in their one-by-one tuna supply chains. The STP has been created with the overall aim of collaboratively improving the transparency of one-by-one tuna supply chains through the public disclosure of sourcing information. This platform is designed to take a user through the journey of supplying tuna; learning about where it comes from; different techniques used when fishing; and the ocean heroes that supply fish from the one-by-one small scale fisheries that we champion.
For Consumers
Tuna that is sustainably caught can have powerful economic, social and environmental benefits. Transparency is important throughout the supply chain to empower consumers to make responsible choices that benefit the ocean, local coastal communities from Australia to the USA, and your plates.
We welcome consumers to use this platform to learn about the tuna that you eat; where was it caught and what the responsible choice for tuna is. The STP is a tool that allows you to better understand where your tuna products are coming from, learn about the different tuna species from all over the world, responsible tuna brands and companies and their commitments, meet the fishers who catch your tuna, and the entire journey from catch to consumer. Take the time to learn what goes into your can, sushi, poké bowl, and steak and get to grips with how you choose your tuna: for today, and for the future.
For Companies and the Seafood Industry
The STP allows commercial IPNLF members to clearly showcase how their sourcing decisions both align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and directly support one-by-one tuna fisheries; thereby safeguarding coastal livelihoods, contributing to food security and strengthening local economies. Each member's company profile highlights the one-by-one tuna products they sell, the fisheries their products are sourced from, whilst also collating all additional information about sourcing and fishery commitments, including quality statements and product information. Here, you can present to the public how you operate and inform them of sustainable operations, as well as reach out through the supply chain to other IPNLF members in this global network.
The health of our oceans is becoming an increasing concern for consumers, heightening the need for greater transparency throughout seafood supply chains. Whether you're on the market industry side and deciding on your company's sourcing commitments, general CSR, or sustainability, or, you're on the side of legislation - the concerns raised for our oceans and tuna stock management are justified. Coastal communities are already vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and their livelihoods are intrinsically linked to ocean resources. We invite you to become a part of a global movement to build a world with thriving fisheries that work in balance with nature by catching one fish at a time. Help secure a sustainable future for fisheries and communities in which no one is left behind.
