Last updated: 2022/01/26

Frinsa

Frinsa's Yellowfin canned tuna is processed with olive oil, which dramatically enhances and improves the flavour of the fish over time.

This product uses pole and line tuna and the meat is removed upon entering the factory and immediately packaged into the cans. This method efficiently preserves the quality of the meat before it lands on your plate. This product is offered in two formats: single can or in a pack of three.

Frinsa uses tuna acquired from the Senegal pole-and-line yellowfin tuna fishery which uses only pole-and-line vessels. This supports their sustainability efforts as well as their initiative to provide healthy, delicious and high quality tuna products to their consumers.

Gear Matters!

This Frinsa product has been caught pole-and-line: one pole, one line, one fish at a time. This technique is an active type of fishing that is considered the most selective and respectful way to fish. This has been practised by artisanal fishers for centuries and works in harmony with the ocean environment, ensuring little bycatch, lost gear, or overfishing.

Pole-and-line

This fishing method provides the most selective targeting of tuna possible, with minimal bycatch of non-target fish and marine wildlife like dolphins, turtles and sharks. Pole-and-line fishing targets schools of tuna near the ocean surface, and therefore only needs to use short lengths of line on each pole, typically  5-10m.

Yellowfin Tuna

Yellowfin tuna are located around the world in warm tropical and subtropical waters, close to the surface of the ocean. The meat from the fish is pale pink in colour and mild tasting due to the lower fat stores in their body as a result of their location in warmer seas.
