Frinsa's white tuna belly in extra virgin olive oil is made from the belly meat of the fish, the tastiest part of the fish. Frinsa prides itself on protecting that delicious natural flavour by packaging the meat with extra virgin olive oil, which dramatically enhances the flavour of the fish.

This product uses fresh tuna, not frozen and the belly meat is removed manually upon entering the factory and immediately packaged, also manually, in the cans. This method efficiently preserves the quality of the meat, before it lands on you plate.

Frinsa only uses tuna caught from pole-and-line or trolling vessels, which supports their sustainability efforts as well as their initiative to provide healthy, delicious and high quality tuna products to their consumers.

What's in a name?

The scientific name for this tuna is Thunnus alalunga, either white or albacore tuna. This fish belongs to the Scombridae family and has an average size, ranging between 50 and 80cm. It is characterized by having a dark blue upper back and silver body with long fins, reason why it is also called "longfinned tuna", as well as for its succulent texture and juicy meat.

This fishery was established by the Spanish and French in the Bay of Biscay at the end of WWII. The original fishery operates in the summer months as this suits the migration patterns of the albacore tuna in the Atlantic. In 1970, the fishery expanded to operate off Morocco to cover the autumn months when the albacore tuna seek warmer waters.

Pole-and-line

This fishing method provides the most selective targeting of tuna possible, with minimal bycatch of non-target fish and marine wildlife like dolphins, turtles and sharks. Pole-and-line fishing targets schools of tuna near the ocean surface, and therefore only needs to use short lengths of line on each pole, typically  5-10m.
