Ocean’s is B Corp Certified

B Corps are a community of companies who are committed to using business as a force for good. As leaders of this global movement, B Corp brands look beyond profits to support social and environmental goals.

To become B Corp certified, our business was assessed for its impact on our workers, community, customers, and the environment. Meeting the highest standards, we are committed to supporting the positive impact we’re making by remaining transparent and considering all of our stakeholders in every decision we make.

Ocean’s is committed to plastic neutrality

Being plastic-neutral means that for any amount of plastic we use in our operations, a measured equivalent of plastic waste is recovered and removed from the environment through recycling and/or waste management efforts.

Ocean’s chose to work with Cleanhub, a company that collects and repurposes plastic before it enters the ocean. Through Cleanhub, Ocean’s partnered with Tridi Oasis in 2021 and 2022, and currently with ecoBali to help clean our oceans.

Ocean’s is fully traceable from ocean to cupboard

Committed to transparency, we can trace information on all our products throughout the supply chain.

Ocean’s is committed to Protecting Livelihoods of Coastal Communities

We work with IPNLF to support livelihoods in coastal communities throughout the world, providing jobs, nutrition, and a model to sustain tuna fisheries and the marine environment. For many coastal communities, one-by-one fishing methods provide an opportunity to develop a profitable and socially responsible domestic fishery sector, while supporting employment, food security, traditional cultures and livelihoods.

Ocean’s is a member of the Seafood Task Force

We know that working conditions and standards around the world vary. All our suppliers adhere to a strict code of conduct and undergo social audits that ensure they treat their employees properly.

Ocean’s has joined the Seafood Task Force (STF), an industry-led collaboration that brings transparency and oversight to seafood supply chains. Focused on addressing forced labour and human trafficking through traceability and accountability, STF promotes decent work for employees who fish, farm, and produce seafood.

Ocean's supports the Global Ghost Gear Initiative

Ghost gear refers to any fishing gear that has been abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded, and is the most harmful form of marine debris. The cause is rarely intentional and more often because of severe weather, snags under the surface, or a collision with other gear or boats. Regardless, World Animal Protection says ghost gear is found in every sea and ocean on the planet.

Every year 640,000 tons of gear is lost or left in our oceans (that’s as heavy as two Empire State Buildings!) making it one of the biggest threats to our marine life today.

Through our partnership with the Global Ghost Gear Initiative, we are helping solve the problem of lost and abandoned fishing gear worldwide. Co-founder Ben Kneppers says ‘GGGI has become the global hub for understanding the problem and then taking the action to end it. The value of members coming from a variety of areas enables us to create a multi-pronged approach with a proven track record that is creating real positive change.’

"Ocean’s is committed to preserving the health of our oceans for future generations. We have extensive collaboration with our supply partners to ensure the seafood we provide is environmentally, ethically, and economically conscious.

Our ongoing engagements with IPNLF support livelihoods in coastal communities throughout the world, providing jobs, nutrition, and a model to sustain tuna fisheries and the marine environment."

Our Fisheries

Maldives pole-and-line yellowfin tuna

Indian Ocean
The Maldives pole-and-line fishery contributes significantly to the country's economy and also to the local, Maldivian people. Yellowfin and skipjack tuna are one of the only protein sources available to this community, so they rely heavily on the fishery.

Kochi and Miyazaki Pole-and-Line Albacore tuna fishery

Pacific Ocean
The Kochi and Miyazaki pole-and-line fishery hunts for both albacore and skipjack tuna, off the coast of Japan and in the high seas. The fish are stored whole on board and in a brine solution to preserve the fish, rather than on ice.

Maldives pole-and-line skipjack tuna

Indian Ocean
The Maldives pole-and-line skipjack fishery has been operating for centuries and has been the lifeline of the Maldivian economy since before the boom of the tourism industry in the mid 1970s. The fishery not only provides a large proportion of the country’s income from the tuna trade and export, but also provides one of the only sources of protein for the Maldivian population, also contributing to a stable livelihood. The Maldivian pole-and-line fishery is located in the Arabian Sea within the Indian Ocean.

Company Policies and Reports

We believe that future generations have a right to sustainable, secure food sources, making it more important than ever that we harness our natural resources responsibly. Sustainable fishing is one of the ways we can accomplish this, leaving enough fish in the ocean to ensure that future generations will have a reliable food source, too. As a brand, we recognize the need to protect fish populations through sustainable fishing and work with partners that not only share this mission but empower us to uphold it.

Fisheries Improvement Toolbox (FIT) Engagement

Back in 2012, Ocean’s made the commitment to support sustainable fisheries by becoming a member of the International Pole & Line Foundation (IPNLF) and the first national brand in Canada to introduce a full range of pole and line caught tuna.

Their commitment was furthered in 2016 when Ocean’s joined its commitment to creating best practice and implementing policy regulations when they funded the Supplier Code of Conduct.

Their achievements have led to their 2019 achievement of becoming a Certified B Corporation to join a project of over 2700 companies to compete to be the best in the world, and the best for the world.
