The American Tuna brand was formed in 2005 by six American pole-and-line fishing families in San Diego, California, with a mission of providing high-quality, pole-and-line caught canned albacore tuna that customers can buy with full traceability to the source.

American Tuna products are responsibly sourced from the North Pacific ocean using one-by-one fishing methods. The 100% sustainably sourced albacore is packed in the US using traditional packing methods to ensure it delivers high-quality tuna to the US market.

A core principle behind its products is the right of customers to know the source of the food they eat. American Tuna guarantees full traceability of all of its products to vessel level; all American Tuna brand albacore products are traceable to the exact captain and vessel that harvested the tuna.

American Tuna sources 100% of their tuna responsibly, and with full traceability, it ensures there is integrity packed into every can.

In 2019 American Tuna joined the World Wise Foods Group.

American Tuna & the American Albacore Fishing Association A match made in heaven

American Tuna is an active member of AAFA (American Albacore Fishing Association), which is also a member of IPNLF. Partnering with industry stakeholders enables American Tuna to better understand fishery and vessel owners needs.

Keeping it in the Family

American Tuna founding families have been involved in the US fishing industry for multiple generations. It is the family ties that have helped to create a better future for it's one-by-one albacore fishers. The skill and passion for fishing this way is passed down from generation to generation.

"The mission of American Tuna is to provide high-quality one-by-one harvested tuna . For example, the pole-and-line method uses barbless hooks and poles to catch tuna one at a time near the sea’s surface. This approach has low levels of by-catch and minimal impact on the environment contributing to the sustainable management of fisheries. 100% of our tuna is responsibly sourced."
